PETER MURPHY ANNOUNCES THE MR. MOONLIGHT TOUR CELEBRATING 35 YEARS OF BAUHAUS: Murphy To Tour North America and Europe Performing Only Bauhaus Material

March 6, 2013 (New York, NY) – Iconic frontman Peter Murphy has announced the Mr. Moonlight Tour, celebrating 35 years of Bauhaus. Murphy, who has started working with producer Youth (Killing Joke, The Verve) on the follow up to his 2011 critically acclaimed solo effort, NINTH (Nettwerk), will spend three months touring North America and Europe with a full band performing only Bauhaus material. Says Peter, “Since 2006, I have included my Bauhaus work into my solo work as a way of tipping my hat to my own audience…those who discovered my early work as well as new and old fans of those years strong wishes to hear the music of my band crackle and spark in the live arena. Being the foremost advocate of this Bauhaus work, I decided the time was ripe to at last give a pure Bauhaus experience in one Mr. Moonlight world tour. Mr. Moonlight is alive and well, don't doubt it.”

Bauhaus formed in 1978 and achieved worldwide cult status that continues to this day. As the main man of the acclaimed outfit, Peter Murphy helped usher in ground breaking opaque moods and atmospheres into the post-punk landscape. Bauhaus originally split in 1983, but eventually bowed to public pressure to reform in 1998 and again in 2005. The Mr. Moonlight Tour will be the first time since 2006 that Peter Murphy will perform full Bauhaus sets, and the first time ever that he will do so on his own.

Peter Murphy invites you to join him as one of his very special guests at a luminescent Halloween Miracula on Saturday, October 27, 2012 6-1:30 am at a secret location in the Los Angeles area.

The night will begin with cocktails as guests arrive. A moonlit 2-act concert will follow, with a special set list that has been chosen and arranged for this event. After the show, the party begins, with cocktails, a moveable feast, music, and merriment. Peter will join in the festivities and spend the evening revelling with his guests. Smaller groups will be invited throughout the evening to join Peter in a private room at the location to have more intimate conversation, take photos, and sign autographs. Special Miracula Halloween gifts will be given to each guest.

Costumes are encouraged but not necessary, but it is Halloween so resplendent finery is in order.

BAUHAUS' DAVID J AND THIEVERY CORPORATION'S ROB GARZA INTRODUCE 18-YEAR-OLD MCKENNA FRAZER WITH HER DEBUT SINGLE, A COVER OF "I'LL BE YOUR CHAUFFEUR"

San Francisco native, 18-year old McKenna Frazer is charming, talented, driven, adventurous, and servant-hearted. She is also an avid music lover. And it doesn’t hurt that renowned artist and founding member of the rock band Bauhaus, David J, is her biggest advocate.
Their recent collaboration, a rendition of his hit “I’ll Be Your Chauffeur,” was originally recorded as a gift for McKenna’s father, a good friend of David J’s. McKenna grew up listening to David’s music, and when she decided to record a song for her dad, this one seemed perfect. She was going through her dad’s music and came across “I’ll Be Your Chauffeur,” a song she knew by heart. She describes the process as simple and organic, saying that “the song is so beautiful- it just clicked. I wanted to record a song for my dad before I left for my gap-year in India, and I knew it was the perfect choice.” She began teaching herself the chords, popped open her laptop, and began laying down individual tracks for the ukulele and vocals. After adding harmonies and a little "do-do-do" line (that she borrowed from the guitar riff on the Pretender's song, "Back on the Chain Gang") it was complete!
After McKenna played the song for her father, he immediately emailed her version to David J. When David heard McKenna’s recording, he was so impressed with her voice and the charm of her interpretation that he took her to the studio and recorded a fully mixed and mastered rendition, which he co-produced with Thievery Corporation’s Rob Garza. Soon to follow was a video shoot, which McKenna shot with David J (executive producer) and David Jude Thomas (director/co-executive producer). Recalling the experience, McKenna describes it as “fun but definitely different from what I expected. The whole process was fascinating to be a part of because it’s something you don’t really get to understand until you go through it. It was so interesting to see that side of the process. And the crew was amazing- we had so much fun!”
What’s next for McKenna? Her own music! With a growing catalogue of songs, McKenna is excited about pursuing her own music career. She knew from an early age that music was what she wanted to do, and she looks forward to the next few years when she gets to develop a fan base and gain exposure. In her words, “music is the language of the soul” and she hopes to touch people with her music in the same way that so many artists have impacted her.

KEVIN HASKINS SCORES DOCUMENTARY

Last year Bauhaus/Love and Rockets drummer Kevin Haskins composed original music for a documentary entitled; "Mark Lombardi - Death Defying Acts of Art And Conspiracy." The film investigates an artist whose works transformed contemporary power structures into visual art and whose death left many questions regarding this system's intentions and breadth. BAUHAUS - ‘GO AWAY WHITE’

“I come with this darkness and go away white.”

Bauhaus slid fully formed from punk rock's womb in late 1978. Over the course of four hot years, they unintentionally birthed a genre (Goth), moved on, moved forward, and surged mercurial through the post-punk music scene, tearing into tense, stark, dub bass-driven new-wave, T-Rex-esque glam, and swirling, clattering, orchestral atmospherics, whilst churning it all into a grand velvet, Rimbaudian hallucination. It was a wild, inspired, enthralling sound. And it still is. Now there is a new record.


‘Go Away White’ was recorded in 18 days at Zircon Skye in Ojai, with singer Peter Murphy, bassist David J, guitarist Daniel Ash, and drummer Kevin Haskins playing together as a band in one room, taking first takes as final cuts. So, a new record but apparently a final one, the band having decided to release it as a posthumous swan song.


‘Go Away White’ is everything you would
hope Bauhaus would deliver as their final statement. Fronted by a cover photo of Bethesda, the angel of the healing waters in New York's Central Park, the music inside is pure cathartic renovation, a psychedelic glimpse into an enchanted moment. Aided in part by guitarist Daniel Ash's inspired use of Jimi Hendrix's own personal Vox wah wah pedal, gifted to him by Peter Murphy at the start of the sessions, it is pop as much as it is experimental.


The 10 songs on ‘Go Away White’ channel the kind of magic timelessness you could imagine on a mighty bill with Joy Division, Bowie, Devo, the Creatures, Antony, My Bloody Valentine, and Kraftwerk--with Oscar Wilde playing master of ceremonies.


As the NME once said, "Bauhaus are to Goth, what Radiohead are to Prog." It's all building blocks. Give ‘Go Away White’ an honest minute and you'll realize that The Klaxons, The Killers, The Rapture and Foals all got their beats from Bauhaus, and how--without them--there would be no Nine Inch Nails or Jane's Addiction or Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, AFI, TV on the Radio, Interpol, Hot Hot Heat or LCD Sound System.


The accomplishments of the band are too many to list here but to touch lightly, there are the four studio albums: ‘In the Flat Field’ (1980), ‘Mask’ (1981), ‘The Sky's Gone Out’ (1982), and ‘Burning from the Inside’ (1983). There is the riveting appearance with David Bowie in the movie,‘The Hunger’. There are the classic Peel sessions and the hits--seismic rumbles such as ‘She's in Parties’, ‘Kick in the Eye’,’Stigmata Martyr’, and the great, epic, pillar of ether and brooding, psychedelia, that is 'Bela Lugosi's Dead.'


So, an end but an end with one final sonorous statement. Behold ‘Go Away White’.

'Top Of The Pops', the long running British TV show has finally been dropped. Bauhaus played the show on three occasions. The songs featured were 'Ziggy Stardust', 'Lagartija Nick' & 'She's In Parties'.

David J writes:

As a band, we were brought up on and inspired by T.O.T.P. T Rex, Bowie, Roxy Music and some of the odd juxtapositions were great where you would have some total wimpy m.o.r. rubbish followed by a band like The Who. When we played on the show for the first time it was a real 'pinch your self' dream come true. We were also told off by the producer for breaking the rules, Peter propelling his fake microphone that ended up in the producers box then leaping into the audience at the end of our song. The second time we did it, we pulled a similar stunt again, only this time charging through the crowd, the same queeny producer was screaming the classic, "This band will never do this show again!" (we did though) but now it is really true. A great British institution, sad to see it go.

A rose at the end of its life loses its petals. Sometimes the petals fall off and other times, they fly off. In Atlanta, they flew off when Peter, holding a rose, reached out to a fan in the pit. He brushed her on the hands with the rose. The flower created a petal explosion, an apparent act of violence yet resulted in beauty...

In Denver, the same thing occurred, only the accident happened with Daniel. The rose petal trail continues...

We are pleased to announce the first of five US radio performances tomorrow in Atlanta with Peter and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. They will be doing a set just before the show at the Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheatre at 5 pm and you can tune in via streaming audio on 99x (WNNX).

There is minimalism and then there is 'minimalism'! 

Prior to the band taking the stage in Ridgefield tonight, the lighting desk (which we share with NIN) had a complete catastrophic meltdown, hence the very basic lighting (when there was any lighting at all.) NIN were putting out calls and scrambling to sort out a new desk minutes before they were scheduled to play. Peter and I wanted to encourage Trent and his soldiers to go on and do it old school punk rock style minus the big production and burst into the band's dressing room to urge them on but the problem was fixed just in time and apparently the show went ahead as usual. Good thing but it could have been great if it had stayed broken and they had to just get on, plug in and blast away.

At the very first show on the new tour with Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus premiered two new songs at the Sasquatch Festival: 'Adrenaline' & 'Endless Summer Of The Damned'. These are the first new songs to be written and performed by Bauhaus since 2000's 'The Dog's a Vapour'.
