Bauhaus Resurrection News - October 98

October 31 Having just gotten the Seconds Magazine, I see there is another great cover shot by Howard Rosenberg. The was interview done by Andy Brooksbank and Jim Gardner, the former whom many of you know as the author of Beneath the Mask, which included a recording of Bauhaus' first demo. Both Jim and Andy are not just journalists, but also big fans. By the way, if you haven't picked it up yet, you can still order it through Beggars Banquet.

There is also a review by S. Anzai of the Osaka show on that page... go and have a read.

From S. Anzai

October 30 Accolades go to Pamela for winning the Love and Rockets SonicNet contest! She'll be interviewing Love and Rockets in London next weekend with her artillery of 200+ questions that she submitted and it'll also be webcasted as well, so you'll have to tune in to find out more...

Love and Rockets is also featured in Tower Records' Pulse Magazine. You can find it in any Tower Records free or if one's not nearby you, you can buy it at your local bookstore (if they carry it).

October 29 Bauhaus has enshrined David Bowie these days, and it was even more so prevalent at the Milan show. In Milan, Lady Stardust was again sung during She's In Parties and Danny played a guitar solo of Breaking Glass during Dark Entries. Now, if only Bowie would quit playing hide and seek in Bermuda...!

Also, two sites with reviews of the New York shows... check out the Worley Gig, and Indie Press Online.

From Gennaro, Gail and Indie Press Online

October 26 Apparently just after She's In Parties at the Vienna show, there was a short circuit on the stage and the power went out for 10 minutes. The mimes in the band, Peter and David, stayed frozen in their gestures the whole time until the power came back on.

Okay, so not everyone is perfect - the official Peter Murphy site is not up yet, as I reported earlier.

Beggars Banquet has revamped their site; it's looking glorious as ever. Looking at their forthcoming releases, they've got a Best of Peter Murphy listed for 1999. This sounds like the video compilation Wild Birds will be finally be released in conjunction with it!

Ardith sent in a review of the Mexico City show - sounds like the Mexico City fans were just a little more outgoing than the usual concertgoing crowd...

It appears that the official KMFDM site will be carrying Bauhaus merchandise. Master webmaster/KMFDM master Sascha K will be taking your orders over there.

October 23 There is an official Peter Murphy site now - again, not much is up, but I'm sure it will be updated when Recall is out next Tuesday.

As originally reported on the official site, there is a bonus surprise to be heard on Recall. The final track is Cool, Cool Breeze, which was originally recorded during Holy Smoke. It's in a capella, much like one of the remixed versions of The Sweetest Drop.

Word has it that after the Bauhaus tour is finished, Peter will start recording on his 6th solo full length album and expects to release it sometime next year.

Bugjuice has updated their section on Peter Murphy. David J has written a piece on Peter - go have a look.

Now for a change of scenery - a Bronx cheer for my hometown team!

October 22 The new Undertaker pieces, "Pandemonium De Murphy" and "Irish" are now up!

October 19 The Love and Rockets chat on SonicNet for tonight has been changed to 11 p.m. EDT.

October 18 A few people have asked me what the Swing E.P. had on it - several mixes of Lazy and also Bad Monkey. Although Bad Monkey was already released on the Glittering Darkness EP, it also later appeared as ****Jungle Law, according to the book Dark Entries. One additional song also was to appear - Life's A Drag or a variation of it.

October 16 The official site reports that you can now hear the DJ Keoki remix of Holy Fool at a2b music. You need to download the a2b player in order to get it working though.

The Body and Soul page has reported (and reminded me) that SonicNet also has the Holy Fool video in their StreamLand section for viewing.

Seconds magazine has a full feature article on Bauhaus and you can even order the magazine online.

A new edition of the Undertaker's Journals will be making its way over here and there shortly....

From Cascade email list and Body and Soul page

October 15 As you can see, not much has been happening around here, although Lift was released on Tuesday and along with it the hordes of people rushing to get the sampler that came with Lift.

There's been some activities going on at other sites. The Body & Soul page is hosting a petition for Love and Rockets unreleased material from 10 years ago called Swing. If there are enough votes over there, perhaps the band will release it before the possibility of them calling it quits. So, go and vote! (am I starting to sound like MTV's Rock the Vote yet? I'll be Kennedy.... not!)

Two newly created sites/site additions have gone up recently. Aki's just added a page about David Bowie's influence on Bauhaus - check it out at her Velvet Goldmine. Also, Fabrice has a new site that has articles in English and French on Bauhaus. You can have a look here,

Amusingly enough, Lift is given a little coverage in the sex issue of Mademoiselle. There's a picture of Kevin with Danny far off in the distance. Also, I had forgotten to mention that Bauhaus was given a blurb and a picture in Rolling Stone about the Chicago show when Billy (Yul) Corgan and Stephen Perkins showed up to join in the chant.

October 12 Phillipe, Eric and Nathalie sent in pictures for the first Toronto show - have a look! Also, tonight is the Mexico City show, seeing the comments on the page makes me think that there are quite a few happy Mexican fans waiting to see the band!

Bugjuice (BMG's site) also has a new section on Love and Rockets, which includes a bio, RealPlayer interviews (looks like it was conducted in the same room as Peter's interviews) and audio clips. The Red Ant's site and Bugjuice's are the one and the same, FYI.

October 11 Updated the links page... I find it distressing that in my search for sites that so many have disappeared. Booo.

Also, SonicNet has several Bauhaus videos that you can watch online in their Streamland section. It's a bit better than watching through Rolling Stone, as the videos are downloaded first, then you watch them without all that net congestion. Speaking of Rolling Stone, both of the Chicago webcasts have been archived, so if you didn't see it the first time around, check it out now.

Just checked out Red Ant's updated section on Peter, and you'll find a short RealPlayer interview clip with him about Recall and also samples of Roll Call - Recall and Surrendered on there as well. Still missing out on the samplers of Lift on SonicNet though...!

October 10 Now for a bout of shameless self-promotion...yours truly was interviewed on Portugal's Antennae 3 yesterday for their Bauhaus night they are currently having every Friday night. Thanks to Alvaro and Nuno for placating my nerves in trying times of heady stardom. ZDTV (Ziff-Davis Television, - DirectTV/ satellite) station in the US, also ran a brief segment about Bauhaus online, and talked about the official site. At the end of the segment, you get to see my brill front page in the background. You can see the segment via RealPlayer. You can also check out ZDTV online's ruminations about the Bauhaus sites and also has an in depth, embarrassingly candid Q & A (T&A?) session with yours truly. Let the truth be told!

Now onto reality - several people have emailed me as to how they can get the sampler from Best Buy. As far as I know, you can only purchase it at the store, and not online. Unfortunately, someone on the Cascade list has reported that they called Best Buy and were told that they only came with the first 30 copies of Lift. If anyone has a positive experience getting the sampler with Lift or Crackle (which means you did not have to buy the sampler), please let me know.

TimeLeak sent in more screen shots from the webcast. Although the other screen shots are on the first New York show page, the interview actually took place on the second night. But for space's sake, I still have the other screen shots on the 10th, and TimeLeak's on the 11th.

October 9 The Love and Rockets contest for the London show on the site-that-shall-not-be-named is here. The stumper part is that you'll have to submit what questions you want to ask the band you had the chance to interview them. Unfortunately, you have to be a "residing US citizen" and over 21.

Best Buy is offering a promotional Red Ant/Beggars Banquet compilation of Bauhaus and all its offspring if you order Crackle or Lift. This is fairly limited - at least under 10,000 copies.

October 8 The venue for the Milan show has changed to Alcatraz, according to the Telegram-Sam newsletter. It was chosen because the tickets are selling very well and the venue holds 2600 people. Also, the Paris show has sold out now!

There's been quite a change at the Red Ant web site now.... They now have a revamped site and an outdated contest through SonicNet to meet and interview Love & Rockets in London. There's also some interesting tour dates for Bauhaus - 3 dates listed in Mexico City, with one marked "Travel" and the other line blank, as well as a "Full Production Rehearsal" in Prague. Could it be that someone forgot to take out the band itinerary? You can also "email" Love & Rockets and Peter Murphy at Red Ant.

SonicNet will be having a live chat with Love & Rockets on October 19th - in two weeks (the day after Tokyo). It will be at 10 pm EST and you'll need the ichat plug in in order to do the chat. SonicNet also (do they have a monopoly or what?) has songs from Love & Rockets' new album Lift, which I strangely enough couldn't hear because SonicNet said I didn't have RealPlayer 5.0 and a proper browser. Somebody fix the damned thing.

And don't forget - the aforementioned site will be showing the second New York show cybercast tonight at 9 pm EST.

October 6 The videos that Bauhaus chose for M2 were: Orbital, Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Primus - Winona's Big Brown Beaver (requested by David J), Devo, Rolling Stones - It's Only Rock and Roll (But I Like It), David Bowie - Changes and Ashes to Ashes, PJ Harvey - Man Size, REM - Everbody Hurts, Tricky - Christiansands and Radiohead - Just.

Also, they mentioned that the live video and record will be out before Christmas (perfect Hannukah and Kwanzaa gifts too).

October 4 Allison sent in more screenshots from the webcast interview in New York last week. I know some of you may complain that most of the pictures were of Peter, but if you missed the webcast, you'd see that the camera stayed on Peter. But there are shots of Kevin's beaming smile, Danny's D Generation hair and David's semi-translucent glasses (gasp!).

Also, two comic illustrations that I found very funny - check it out on Stella's site.

I will be adding sites on the links page for the various offspring Bauhaus projects, like Love & Rockets, Daniel Ash, Tones on Tail, David J, etc, so if you have a site that you'd like to have linked or know of one, please send it in.

October 3 Bauhaus was interviewed on M2, the all music MTV station (wasn't that MTV's original intent in 1981??) and they played videos of their choice. As soon as people actually see the clip (hint, hint, hurry up Nicole!!), I'll spill all on what videos they chose. Also, Love & Rockets were interviewed on Modern Rock Live last Sunday (old age is getting to me as I forget to mention things like this!) and one of the humorous things they mentioned were the comic books they grew up with - Kevin's favorite was Batman, David - Spiderman and Danny - Silver Surfer. All very apt and fitting descriptions of the band members, no?

We have a rebuttal to the Undertaker - the Undertaker's Doctor. You may have seen the review in several different places, but here it is, in all its medicinal glory. The review appears on the New Orleans page (and don't bother asking me who wrote it, I won't tell ya). You may recall there were a lot of disenchanted fans when they played Ziggy Stardust twice during that show. Contrary to popular opinion, they did not play it out of spite. Let the band have a good time, y'all!

My pictures from the Irvine and second New York shows are finally up. Enjoy my up close and personal photography in all its grandeur.

Also, CDNow has Lift, the new Love & Rockets for advance release order; it'll be out on October 13. Interestingly enough for all the vinyl collectors, Lift will be available on the shiny black disc. Recall, Peter's new EP due out on October 27, will also be available for advance release order.

October 1 The latest offering from the Undertaker is here. Expect more when the European tour commences.

Several site updates: Pamela sent in her end of tour woes poem - I'm sure that the US folks are starting to feel her pain too. Gilly sent in screen shots of the webcast interview, you can find them on the first New York page - you'll also find a New York City Search link on there too. Last but not least, our local reviewer, Scott Brown, has his review of the Irvine show up now.

If you haven't heard by now, the second New York show webcast has been rescheduled to next Thursday October 8 at 9 pm EST. It had to be rescheduled due to technical difficulties. Now, if they had ME doing it... well, things would have worked out a lot better ; ) You can view the webcast at SonicNet or LiveConcerts.
