Bauhaus Resurrection News - August 98

AUGUST 31 It turns out that Muzic.com was correct in their rumors. Bauhausmusik states:

During their two day run of sold out shows at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago last week, Bauhaus spent the day of Friday August 28th recording at the Chicago Recording Company. The band worked on various material but none that they had ever previously recorded.

Go and have a look at the official Bauhaus web site, Bauhausmusik if you haven't had a chance. It promises to be a wealth of resources, with a news section which I highly recommend, photos, merchandising (which will be revealed soon!), and last but not least, a newsletter which you can subscribe to. You can subscribe by emailing telegram-sam@bauhausmusik.com . Please note that this is NOT a list serve - rather it is a newsletter that will be official information and promotions for Bauhaus.

Read Thomas Pagan's review of the second Chicago show! CJ also sent in some pictures from the Las Vegas show, have a peek at 'em.

AUGUST 30 The venue for the Rochester show has been changed. The new venue is The Harrow East Ballroom on 150 Chestnut Street.

Also, Kelly has pictures of the second San Francisco show, check out her link on that page.

The rest of the European dates should be announced next week, so please be patient! Note that the UK, Germany and Japan dates are already listed on the tour page link to your left.

AUGUST 29 If you were paying attention to the beginning of the first Chicago cybercast, the announcer reported that Bauhaus was planning on releasing new material . Muzic.com has more on it and also hinted that the time between Irvine and Mexico City shows was probably the time to do the recording.. Personally, I think they were referring to a live album that will be recorded during the US tour, but then again, no one asked me : )

AUGUST 28 Bauhaus had some impromptu guests join them in Chicago for a rendtition of Telegram Sam and All We Ever Wanted... none other than the Yul Brynner of rock - Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins. Stephen Perkins from Jane's Addiction also joined in the performance.

The Boston Globe has an article and interview in anticipation of the Boston show happening next week...

The Bowienet cybercast on August 31 will be shown on Rolling Stone as well. Get prepared for frames every 5 seconds!

AUGUST 27 UPDATE Hope all you folks that aren't at the Chicago show, are watching the Rolling Stone cybercast! They announced at the beginning of the cybercast that Bauhaus will be releasing new material.

Also, David Bowie will be doing a webcast "party" of sorts to promote his new ISP Bowienet on Sunday and will choose two songs from the Chicago cybercasts for the party August 31. Be forewarned, Bauhaus will NOT be the only band on the cybercast - Ani DiFranco, The Specials and a few others and selected songs from Bowie's 50th Birthday show at Madison Square Garden.

Check out Steve's review of the Minneapolis show! And booo - a negative review from a local Denver rag on the Denver page.

AUGUST 27 Several additions to concert pages - you can see William's pictures he took at the first San Francisco show through his link on that page. You can also read Scott's review of the San Diego show... turns out that our boy Scott wasn't too enthused with the crowd there. Finally, Monica has a review of the Denver show on her site, again, just go through the Denver page link.

AUGUST 26 New date announced - October 12 in Mexico City, Mexico at Cine Opera. No word when tickets go on sale.

Two more pictures from Victoria for the second San Francisco show - don't you all love the epic concert effect the pictures have?

AUGUST 25 Bauhaus: Dark Entries and Beyond by Ian Shirley will be published in the US for the first time! Previously, it was only available as an UK publication. Amazon is accepting pre-orders for the release date of September 1st. If you haven't checked out this biography about Bauhaus up to 1995, it's worth a read! Read tantalizing stories of mayhem, madness and sex behind the scenes... whoops, that's Backstage Passes by Angie Bowie.

Victoria sent in some wonderful pictures from the second San Francisco show.... have a look!

Also, Rolling Stone and JamTv are having a contest. Five grand prize winners will win a Bauhaus autographed prize pack, featuring an autographed copy of Crackle, and an autographed poster. Ten first prize winners will each win a copy of Crackle, and 25 runners up will win a Bauhaus poster. Don't forget that there will be a cybercast of both Chicago shows. You'll need RealPlayer 5.0 with a minimum of a 28.8 connection to view the cybercasts.

AUGUST 24 Tickets for the Osaka, Japan and Tokyo, Japan shows go on sale September 5 at 3 pm at Smash for the Osaka show - the telephone number is +81 (0)6 361 0313 and September 5 at 10 am at Smash for the Tokyo show - that telephone number is +81 (0)3 3444 6751 .

No further information on other tour dates!

AUGUST 22 The tour program mentioned below lists European shows, but no dates yet. They are as follows:

Osaka, Japan
Tokyo, Japan
Vienna, Austria
Prague, Czech Republic
Munich, Germany
Milan, Italy
Berlin, Germany
Hamburg, Germany
Copenhagen, Denmark
Cologne, Germany
Paris, France
Deinze, Belgium
Manchester, England
London, England
Barcelona, Spain
Valencia, Spain
Oporto, Portugal
Lisbon, Portugal

Let me remind people that I do not know the dates for shows that are not linked on this site, which means I'm not able to provide them at the moment. So, please kindly refrain from emailing me and asking if I do know the dates (you can refer to the FAQ for further information about this).

Kick in the Eye had its Elvis moment in Las Vegas as Bauhaus updated it for the Viva Las Vegas crowd. Great movie by the way... one of Elvis' best.

AUGUST 21 UPDATE In case you weren't paying attention (I certainly wasn't), starting with Tuesday's SF show, the merchandise vendors starting selling very limited editions of Bela Lugosi's Dead cd singles. They are numbered, and as you can see here, 50 of them were autographed by the band, at least at San Diego's show! They have also added tour programs (Now, I'm REALLY kicking myself for forcing myself out of the throng: I thought getting the Warfield freebie poster was enough).

AUGUST 21 The official Bauhaus site that Kevin had mentioned to a fan a while back, is up but there is only one page at the moment. Hopefully there will be more information up soon enough.

AUGUST 20 The tickets for the UK shows are already on sale, apparently. The numbers to call are:

Manchester Academy - 44 161 832 1111. Tickets are £14.25 including booking fee
Brixton Academy - 44 171 924 9999 . Tickets are £15.00 including £2.50 booking fee

As you can see, there are now links for the European dates. At the moment though, you'll have to click on the tour dates link on your left instead of going to the table directly below.

The San Diego Union-Tribune has a brief interview with Danny coinciding with tonight's San Diego show. Also, San Diego "independent" radio station 92.5 FM (The Flash) interviewed both Peter and Danny earlier today, and played new material from both Peter's and L&R's new albums.

Beggars celebrated their 21st birthday last night. Here's a brief note from the BBC on last night's festivities. I guess they now can have a pint in the US. Here's to another 21 years!

AUGUST 19 UPDATE Two new UK dates announced! They are:

November 6 -
Manchester, England at the Academy
November 7 -
London, England at Brixton Academy

Spin online did a nice interview with both David J and Peter Murphy last week. Unfortunately, they are only accessible via AOL. Here's the complete interview for your enjoyment.
Also,
MTV has quoted Peter and Danny's pithy thoughts on US president Clinton's sex scandal. The San Francisco Chronicle has a good interview with the band from the Sunday paper.

AUGUST 19 Peter certainly put the temper back in tempermental: at the second San Francisco show, just prior to Severance, he screamed "Shut the fuck up!" several times at some hecklers in the centre. Needless to say, no one dared to cross his path after that.

Dark Entries was also added to the set. Hopefully this one will stay in the setlist, as we all love it when Peter sings, "Oh please Miss Lane, leave me with some pain."

The ISSN number for the September issue of Raygun is: 71486 03510 . It has a very interesting article on Bauhaus' thoughts on spirituality... check it out.

AUGUST 18 Although I did say I wouldn't be mentioning setlists on the news page, thought I'd tell you all that Burning From the Inside has been introduced to the set! But I must say, it was a bit lackluster, after hearing Telegram Sam and Ziggy Stardust back to back. Let's see what tonight's show holds...

AUGUST 16 An European fan was at a music festival this weekend and saw a poster advertising these Bauhaus German dates:

October 26 - Munich, Germany at Colloseum
October 29 -
Berlin, Germany at Arena
October 30 -
Hamburg, Germany at Docks
November 2 -
Cologne, Germany at E-werk

The number to call for tickets is:040 853 88 853. No word when tickets go on sale...

We also have proof from Gilly that Peter does indeed wear underwear under his oh-so-snug trousers... check out the photo and more new ones from the July 12 show in Los Angeles. Jeff Levy sent in his great review of that same show.

The Vancouver setlist is now up! This will be the last announcement I'll make about setlists on the news page; people can just go to that specific page to see if the setlist is up or not yet.

Raygun, an American cultural/music/art etc. rag has an interview with Bauhaus and some new pictures. I haven't picked it up yet, so I can't provide the ISSN number for the out of US people to give to their magazine shops.

I'll be at the San Francisco shows tomorrow and Tuesday... I'll be scoping the line, so if you see me passing out flyers for umm... a certain site, say howdy. If you mercifully lost my description from the LA shows, I'm the dark long-haired gal with platforms to give my short stature some height and I honestly don't bite, contrary to popular opinion.

Last but not least, There is a tour Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q) for those of you wondering abut general information, such as opening acts (none), original lineup (yes), etc. I seem to be receiving quite a few queries from people with such questions.

AUGUST 15 The second Seattle setlist is now up. They've now added Telegram Sam, which makes for a fine song about a certain web mistress, and hopefully the television set intro (which was originally used at the 1980 Rock Garden shows in London) will stay in the tour set.

A bit of trivia: Both the Troggs' Wild Thing and The Doors' Riders on the Storm have been covered by Love & Rockets and Peter Murphy, respectively, in past concerts.

3 more photos sent in by Gilly for the July 11th show in Los Angeles, check them out.

AUGUST 14 UPDATE The correct Seattle setlist is now up! That link also should be working now. Apparently the Seattle crowd wasn't loud enough, so the last two songs don't technically qualify as encores.... Shame, shame. Enjoy tonight's 2nd Seattle show, folks.

AUGUST 14 There is a setlist up for the Seattle show now. Since everyone seemed to be overcome by emotion, no one so far got an accurate setlist that I can see. If you've got it, give it.

AUGUST 13 Oooh, aren't we all getting first night jitters now? If you've been living under a rock, tonight is the very first night of the official tour, and lucky Seattle gets that honor! The set list will be up as soon as someone sends it in to me... hint hint....

AUGUST 11 UPDATE Three more pictures sent in by Gilly for the LA July 10th show!

Also, Bauhaus will not be in London for the Beggars Banquet 20th anniversary party August 19. The UK folks will hopefully only have to wait 2 more months - sorry!

American MTV has run a clip on Bauhaus this week. If anyone has a transcript, please send 'em in (we're cable-deprived over here).

AUGUST 11 I've added links for Ultimate Band List and the ticket giveaway contest they are running on the links page. If you feel you'd like to have your page linked on the Resurrection page, please feel free to email me.

AUGUST 10 More information on the Irvine show: tickets go on sale through Bren Events Center (714-824-5000) and through Ticketmaster Saturday at 12 noon PST. Bren Events Center is at University of California at Irvine and is only minutes away from the John Wayne Airport, which will be a likely place to spot worn out people in black travelling to see the last show in North America.

AUGUST 9 Two more new dates have been announced!

September 13 - Atlanta, Georgia (second show) at the Tabernacle
September 25 -
Irvine, California at Bren Events Center

The Irvine show is expected to be the final North American show. Unfortunately, there will be no second Philadelphia show.

Tickets for both dates go on sale August 15.

More gossip: According to an UK television show ITV, Beggars Banquet is having their 20th Birthday Party in London August 19th, and it is rumored that Bauhaus will play. I think it's nearly, if not totally unlikely, as they will be in San Francisco the 18th, then headed down to San Diego on the 20th.

AUGUST 7 Beggars Banquet has posted a wonderful recent studio shot of the band, check it out!

AUGUST 6 I surely hope that some venues will be as lax as the Hollywood Athletic Club when it comes to picture-taking, because Gilly sent in even more pictures from the first gig July 9th. Enjoy!

Not very newsy, but amusing: Peter apparently took his two kids to see the wunderkind kiddie band Hanson in Seattle. No word if Peter will sing back up on their next album.

AUGUST 5 Two Japanese shows confirmed! Tickets will go on sale soon for these dates:

October 16 Osaka, Japan - Sankei Hall
October 18
Tokyo, Japan - Kokusai Foram A

AUGUST 4 Rumor has it that Bauhaus will be playing the Olympia in Paris, France in October. No further information available.

AUGUST 3 Although Bauhaus has been dominant in the news online, there's hardly been any interviews or articles published in magazines or newspapers. It will come as a pleasant surprise that Alternative Press, an US music magazine, have done an interview with the band for its September issue. There are also some new pictures taken in conjunction with the interview. In the case that you would like to get a hold of it (and don't live in the United States) and can ask your magazine seller to order it for you, the ISSN number is 1065 1667.

I'd also like to add that I don't have any further specific information on an UK/European, Mexican or South American tours at the moment. For now, the only information I know is that an European tour is planned for October or November and Peter Murphy had mentioned that Bauhaus will be touring Japan as well. When and if those shows are announced, I will post them here.

AUGUST 2 We now have even more pictures from the Los Angeles July 10, 11, and 12 shows sent in by Kaori and Aya. You might notice on the July 12 page the car that David J drove into the Palladium parking lot - now that's what I call a class act kind of a fellow.

AUGUST 1 A follow up on the finale show... an unsubstantiated rumor has it that it will be at the Irvine Convention Center, and it's still looking like it's September 25th.

So far, two sites are running ticket giveaways - I had mentioned previously that UBL was doing one (you can select any show that's confirmed) and it is still up and running, SF Sidewalk is also doing one for the sold-out August 17th show in San Francisco.

Check out the Orange County Register's interesting interview with Peter Murphy around the time of the first Los Angeles show.
