Q & A with Peter Murphy

Fondest memory of the tour:

Sitting with Daniel, like a long lost pair of bosom pals, both under the hair dryer after having astronomically expensive hair sculptures done on us by the now famous 'Spider Boy' hair sculpture extraordinaire Ian.
Location: Beverly Hills hair salon, each with a Glam mag in hand discussing such burning issues such as the correct tone of reds to use, the right degree of straightener, and which latest hair/make up products (amid the thousands) were worth a glance........

Turning to glance at David's face -grinning like a Cheshire cat amid disco dance bliss-twist, together with Daniel backstage at one of the US after shows, who was entertaining three personal guests who resembled the cast of the Addams family (no joke)-uncle fester et all.

The unearthly customary passion (high decibeled) of the Mexican audience

The unearthly customary silence of the 5000 capacity crowds in Japan

Daniel bear hugging me saying (referring to our audience) "they'll love it when they see us do this"

Again Daniel, to me, "Do it for them" encouraging me to pick up my
performance on a particularly (for me) exhaustive show where I was completely shattered physically.

My epic and on going Bauhaus dreams that lasted throughout the tour and ended with it.

What show or city sticks in your mind as the best:

It sounds incredible but all of them . Although incredibly ,performance wise, it just got better and better. Then again the second show in London sticks out, really because we had everything to prove to the self aggrandising negative Brit. Press, and we proved it. As well as the show having been previewed by one of my Bauhaus dreams the night before, and magically coming true.

What was the funniest moment of the tour?

With all respect, during the end of Severance facing Kevin I hear a terrible 'low end' what seems to be feedback noise and shout to Kevin asking what the terrible noise was, who reluctant to say , simply gestured to the front of the stage, whereupon turning, I see David in a rapturous moment bent over the bass that he has laid on the floor, crouching over it like some raving Theodoric of old, massaging the strings with his hands- creating what can best be described as grinding sound effects from the bass.

(he's in a world of his own that boy)

What most impressed you about the tour?

The professionalism of everyone from management to crew, my hair cut, the true critical reading of the event in the press, Daniel's hair cut, a unique to Bauhaus -passionate audience, our stamina, the clear message that we haven't even reached our peak.

If you could be a woman who would you be?

I give up!
